When I think of wisdom, the serenity prayer comes to mind…
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Well, that prayer certainly is a pearl of Wisdom! To be wise is to be able to see things as they truly are, this is the perfection of wisdom. Having a deep sense of knowing and to express oneself from that space requires commitment to Self.
Through practising the 8 limbs of yoga (Yama, ethical precepts, Niyama, personal practices, Asanas, postures, Pranayama, breath control, Pratyahara, withdrawal of the senses, Dharana, uninterrupted concentration, Dhyana, meditation and Samadhi, state of truth & bliss), especially the last 3 limbs, can lead us to heightened states of consciousness which result in spiritual wisdom. It is this discipline that can offer us a path to find that innate wisdom within.
Living one’s purpose certainly helps us to access our deep wisdom within. Getting in touch with our very core of ourselves and sharing this with others allows us the opportunity to acknowledge our self worth and live our lives from that space. It’s literally like finding our own pot of gold or our Divine light within, where the candle of spirit is always lit, ready for us to access this deep state of wisdom. Of course, the trick is to find our own personal way of how we can access our gold continuously and this requires constant never ending attention.
Owls are known to represent perfect wisdom as they are able to see reality without distorting it as they are able to see from all angles. In Ancient Greek mythology, Athena, Goddess of the night, who represents wisdom, has a companion Owl, which reveals unseen truths to her. It was said that the Owl had the ability to light up Athena’s blind side, enabling her to speak the whole truth, as opposed to only a half truth. To remind myself to trust my inner wisdom, I keep a lovely white owl statue on my desk to inspire me to live and speak my truth. You may like to do the same 🙂
Honouring oneself and living a life of integrity is a very simple way to access our truth. When working with the light of truth, more often than not, we radiate this light in our being. More importantly, the more that we stand up for what we believe in, living our own truth, the more we assist to serve others by shining the way of the light to encourage others to do the same. Darkness cannot exist where there is light. All we need sometimes, is the smallest amount of light to help us on our way. Practice daily meditation and acknowledge the Divine light within. If we have awareness of Self, then we know who we are and consequently we know what we need. This provides us the support we need and the ability to access our own wisdom which in turn allows us to be decisive taking self responsibility.
