Perfection of Equanimity

Definition of Equanimity: (Latin: æquanimitas having an even mind; aequus even animus mind/soul) is a state of psychological stability and composure which is undisturbed by experience of or exposure to emotions, pain, or other phenomena that may cause others to lose the balance of their mind. So how can we be calm, serene, unruffled and peaceful with all the chaos in both our inner and outer worlds? This following saying is a practical way to start learning this perfection, 'Respect yourself to walk away from anything that no longer serves you, grows you or makes you happy'. What power there [...]

Perfection of Determination

There certainly is something to be said to have determination in this Earthly life for without it we wouldn't get far. To get stuff done we must invoke determination, get to the very grit within our being and dig deep to stay the course in whatever the situation, pursuit or goal we want to accomplish. Firstly we must have self belief and there needs to be strong motivation. Without having self confidence and the right motivation it's very tricky to keep up our determination. To begin anything we need a solid plan. Spring is a good time to start planning [...]

Perfection of Truthfulness

To find our deepest truth we need to create the space to know ourselves better. It can be difficult to face ourselves at times and the longer we've checked out from ourselves, the more difficult it can be to check back in. However, we can make it as easy or hard as we like. Life is always teaching us ways to come back to being. It could be difficult interactions with others around us, getting sick or simply things just not working on any level. If we can step back from the problem, often we can see the face of [...]

Perfection of Patience

Patience is certainly a virtue and something that we can all learn.  I guess it depends on maturity mostly and our willingness to be patient.  As children we’ve really got no concept of time.  It’s all about that moment and wanting whatever it is in that moment NOW!  As we get older and let go of our childish ways we realise that we need to learn patience to obtain whatever it is we desire including our ultimate happiness. Of course there’s many forms of patience and not only do we need to learn to be internally patient with ourselves [...]

Perfection of Wisdom

When I think of wisdom, the serenity prayer comes to mind... God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Well, that prayer certainly is a pearl of Wisdom!  To be wise is to be able to see things as they truly are, this is the perfection of wisdom.  Having a deep sense of knowing and to express oneself from that space requires commitment to Self. Through practising the 8 limbs of yoga (Yama, ethical precepts, Niyama, personal practices, Asanas, postures, Pranayama, breath [...]

Perfection of Renunciation

Renunciation for the modern world?  It's never been so valid.  In a world of consumerism it appears that this perfection is all but lost.  However, if we look to the Eastern world, we are likely to find so many happy people for the sake of being happy with minimal possessions.  There is little attachment.  The opposite is happening in the western world.  It's a mindset of the more one acquires, the happier one is.  These statements may be seen as sweeping generalisations but what I'm wanting to convey is that money and wanting to acquire more & more possessions [...]

Perfection of Morality

Morality. What is morality? Where does it come from? Morality is a sense of goodness and rightness that comes about deep within us. Of course, having parents who taught us right from wrong was the initial conscious learning of this perfection in this life. However, morality is deeply embedded in our DNA. We know from our actions when something is either good or bad. As a consequence of our our actions we either feel good or bad. As adults, we as individuals need to move to this space of what is morally right so that we can take responsibility [...]

Perfection of Generosity

Generosity. What would the world be without generosity? Better question, what would the world be with MORE generosity? Imagine a world where everyone was generous with their time, their money, their efforts and their love. The colour green certainly comes to mind. Thinking of Mother Gaia and her beautiful trees giving us the very breath to live. Mother Gaia certainly doesn't expect anything in return. However, living in spiritual harmony is how we can express our gratitude to her and at the same time how we can create freedom for ourselves. Expressing our true nature by living our integrity [...]
